The financial markets is one big casino. You don’t see the strip in Las Vegas littered with bodies of losers who blew their life savings for the umpteenth time. You pick yourself up, get sober and a shave, reorganize and scrounge for ammo to once again throw all at the roulette table. You roll with the dice, the punches, and the women, that’s the way to do it.
If rockers in dire straits can croon “Money for Nuthin’ and Your Chicks for Free”, why be a kill joy and kill yourself and maybe those around you for nothing? Even Mr. Las Vegas, the great Wayne Newton filed for bankruptcy not many years ago. Now he’s back on track facing yet another IRS claim in the millions with a new young lady by his side.
The crisis of 2009 marks a milestone. It pushed two billionaires, one from Germany and another from France to commit suicide after they lost their fortunes and their rankings in the Forbes list. At least our American billionaire from Wall Street who siphoned their earthy treasures in an elaborate scam has the gall to plead with the investigators to allow him to keep multi millions to defray the cost of living beyond his eighty years.
How about us, practical try hard paupers who exhausted all possibilities but can’t seem to break into the magic circle of the Forbes 400? Do you suggest that it’s about time we took our lives as well? Staying alive in fact over the ravages of hunger and disease is our daily concern which keeps us on our toes. That doesn’t allow us much quietude to contemplate ending it all. Fighting for your life squeezes out all the creative juices and makes the going fun in an underhanded sort of way.
Is your life valued much less because you have decided to ditch it at this point where you have not yet ascended to the pinnacle of your potential? The investment portfolio that vanished in thin air pales in comparison to the net worth of the ill fated tycoons in the billions. Are you going to give up your life for a much cheaper price? Are you too spent to try again and rustle up the old spunk and energy? Aren’t you a better guy now because of all the experiences in your resume, failed or not? You my friend are a lean mean corporate machine. Move over, Mr. Geithner!
The Roman Generals ordered their remaining legionaries to prop up the broad sword so that they could run and ram their bodies frontally against the blade and impale themselves to death. This normally would happen in the aftermath of a climactic battle in the middle of the killing fields. It is the only honorable thing to do when because of their failed leadership the ranks of the vaunted Roman phalanx are decimated in defeat.
Captains go down with their ships as an act of gallantry. Up to the last minute, they see to it that all the passengers and the crew have safely abandoned the sinking vessel. The Japanese are grudgingly applauded for their gutsy “hara-kiri” which is the most gut wrenching manner of suicide using a sharp bladed object. The Samurai and the Bushido codes of the Japanese warrior demand such a gory, cruel, and painful exit in the face of shameful failure. The bravery that it entails anoints the perpetrator with a sense of dignity to be an example to be emulated in tradition by others.
And the Tora Tora squadrons in deadly formations diving into the American fleet in fiery explosions. The Kamikaze pilots dedicated their sacrifice to their Emperor and embraced martyrdom for the sake of the war effort. The Americans had a better formula which makes them win wars. They have always believed in the credo “the business of war is not to die for your country but to whup the enemy”.
There is nary an episode in history when legal tender served as the crux of marching into battle. The Forts like Fort Laramie and the Alamo which saw a heroic last ditch stand, during the glory days of the Western Frontier were not in anyway precursors or directly connected to the vaults at Fort Knox for the printing of denominations. Ultimatums and non-negotiable dividing lines were not drawn based on a world standard of currency. Of course Manhattan was secured for a few trinkets, but I think the Indians got a better deal than the victims of Bernie who were left with worthless paper.

You are a shareholder in the mind boggling riches of the universe. Don’t let one misstep on earth call for the most extreme punishment on yourself like the death penalty. If the DA allows scum scam artists to plea bargain for probation to avoid jail time, why be so strict and unforgiving with yourself like a hanging judge? You are first offender with no previous bankruptcy. Go easy on yourself for Christ’s sake.
Hows about pleading guilty to a misdemeanor and letting yourself walk with a chance to enter into a joint venture with the Abba Krishna for the exploration of the heavens by harnessing the goodness and the talents inside you? Learn to chant the Maha Mantras to glorify the Abba Krishna and earn the right to explore the uncharted treasures of the outer space above you and the inner space of your consciousness.
